An Akward & Painful Orbituary

PRAMOEDYA ANANTA TOER
(1925-2006)

A lot of us say goodbye easily- to enemies, treacherous lovers, mean bosses, stupid nannies (?) but goodbyes are harsh, difficult and akward when it is said to a loyal comrade, long lasting secret crush, persistence groupies (hehehe).

My akward opening is due to the fact that I and of course other fans of Pramoedya Ananta Toer are still taken aback (very) by his death at the ripe age of 81. A true advocate of the rights of the people and selflessly fight for a free and just Indonesia, Pramoedya earned a lot of arch enemies as well as thousand of admirers and supporters. Steadfastly, he overcome 14 years of imprisonment and censorship to produce masterpieces which are music to the common people but deadly poison to the powers that be. He died of age and deteriorating health but his passion for democracy lives on. Multiple Nobel candidancy and worldwide recognition for his works are not his major aim in life. He is designed for better recognition- love of the people, blessings from his readers and wrath of the regime. May God placed him among the blessed and powerful for the selfless important writings he contribute to us, he makes "words are mightier than sword" such a major understatement of the year. Amen.
